Exploring an Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have found a variety of entertaining creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer includes a protagonist that is literally a piece of poop striving to travel to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: press a one button to leap. Across numerous stages, battle boss fights and visit a market to buy customizations for your poop character.

Execute your movements precisely, since one mistake requires beginning again. Bounce on bubbles to propel yourself upward, cross fragile platforms, and touch triggers to unlock secret routes. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on tougher levels where the action gets crazy.

Graphically, the demo features neon stages and catchy background music. The simple visual style with shifting geometric shapes may remind fans of old favorites like Earthbound.

Although hard to recall similar titles where you control a coiled turd, gaming frequently included toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players craft grenades from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, fecal references appears heavily in the role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Despite its silly idea, Unko Technica has already received notable accolades, like taking top honors at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. This trial version is accessible at present on Steam, with the full game planned to launch on computers this November.
